PROTECT OCCUPANTS & REDUCE LIABILITIES WITH COMMERCIAL TESTING.
RVA Radon specializes in continuous radon testing services for schools, office buildings, apartments, multi-family homes, daycares, and other commercial buildings.
Just like homes, you cannot predict whether a commercial building has elevated radon levels.
Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that can seep into commercial buildings. It can enter the building through foundation cracks, floor gaps, and other entry points.
The risks associated with radon exposure are well-documented, with prolonged exposure leading to an increased risk of lung cancer.
Based on current studies, the Richmond area is particularly susceptible to radon intrusion.
Radon testing is the ONLY way to know if your employees, customers, tenants, or students are protected.
RVA Radon offers options to accommodate the testing needs of our commercial clients.
We test a variety of commercial properties, using appropriate testing measures for each building's property size and other unique factors.
Our team is experienced in testing a variety of commercial structures. We include onsite consultations and formal reporting of accurate test results to meet Virginia requirements.
Additionally, should remediation be required, a third-party, independent company will perform remediation. Our team will continue providing ongoing support during this time and retest after remediation to inspect and ensure the efficiency of the mitigation system.
Our professional radon testers use state-of-the-art equipment to provide accurate testing results.
We provide testing based on the type of structure so that the most reliable results are obtained.
Our team is experienced in performing accurate and thorough testing and how to interpret test results correctly.
Should elevated radon levels be found, we will recommend the appropriate measure to reduce radon levels if necessary.
While radon testing is encouraged in homes, Virginia statute requires schools to test for radon and produce those results if requested.
Should radon be found, regulations for mitigation guidelines are set within that district.
Knowing that your commercial space is free from dangerous radon levels provides peace of mind for you and anyone else occupying the building.
Outside of standard testing every two years, other structural changes may prompt a need to test or retest for elevated radon levels.
These include new construction projects and any new renovation or reconstruction projects.
Radon is naturally released from the soil. Whenever this is a disturbance to the soil, excessive radon may be released.
That's why testing new commercial builds is just as important as new residential builds.
Further, the EPA created guidelines for builders to implement radon-resistant building techniques to mitigate radon exposure in new constructions.
Once the building is complete, radon testing is essential to identify if radon levels exceed 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter of air).
Contact RVA Radon for more information on testing new construction buildings.
Renovations, additions, and/or new buildouts may affect commercial buildings.
For instance, granite and other natural materials may impact radon levels as materials exposed to radon influence radon levels in your new space.
Furthermore, renovations may alter the structure of the building and create gaps or cracks. Poor ventilation may occur and cause radon buildup.
Reach out to RVA Radon for testing after renovations, additions, or buildouts in your commercial building.
Should radon testing indicate your home or building has elevated radon levels, it will be necessary to undergo radon remediation services.
We believe testing and remediation services from the same team are a conflict of interest. Therefore, RVA Radon does not provide radon remediation services.
However, we connect you with trusted and reputable remediation companies in the Richmond area. Part of our commercial testing services includes ongoing support throughout the remediation process. We retest and inspect after remediation to ensure the system meets EPA requirements and that the system is successful in reducing the radon below the action level.
While the primary exposure to radon comes from indoor air, radon may also escape from water inside the dwelling, such as sinks in the bathroom, kitchen, or breakroom of an office.
Structures that use public water systems have negligible exposure to radon in their water. However, any building that uses a private well or lives in an area with groundwater with elevated radon levels should be tested.
The EPA’s guidelines for testing radon in water are:
· There are known problems with groundwater or drinking water in your area
· Conditions near your well have changed significantly (i.e. flooding, land disturbances, and new construction or industrial activity)
· You replace or repair any part of your well system
· You notice a change in your water quality that implies a soil disturbance (i.e. odor, color, taste)
