It's estimated that radon exposure is related to
21,000 cases of lung cancer each year in the United States;
700 of those cases are attributed to residents in Virginia each year.
The first way to protect against elevated levels is to perform a radon measurement.
Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas. You cannot taste it, smell it, or see it.
It's created by the natural decay of uranium in the ground soil. Radon is naturally released into the air, and depending on the building structure, it can become trapped and concentrated in your home or business.
Factors that influence radon build-up include ventilation, cracks, openings, and even well water.
Because radon is everywhere, it's important not to disregard the EPA's recommendations.
Radon becomes a serious health hazard when elevated levels are trapped in your breathing space indoors.
That's why it's important to test radon regularly (approximately every 18-28 months).
Should your home or building have elevated radon levels, the steps to reduce the radon levels are often simple and effective.
Testing provides peace of mind, whether your test indicates low levels in your breathing space or the need for remediation to reduce elevated radon levels.
Not to be dramatic ... but
radon testing can literally save the lives of your loved ones (including your pets).
Radon occurs naturally, so we breathe it in every day.
As you inhale, radon particles are deposited in the lungs.
Non-elevated levels are not an immediate health risk.
However, if radon becomes contained and builds, elevated levels become a significant health risk.
The only way to know your levels is to test for them.
RVA Radon was founded by April Leslie, a certified radon measurement specialist.
Her mission is to provide radon testing and education for homeowners and businesses throughout Richmond, VA.
RVA Radon was created to give peace of mind to others about their breathing space and to reduce health concerns related to radon exposure.
Text us at 804-385-2233 and we'll respond at our first available opportunity to discuss testing and answer your questions.
We come to your home or business to set up monitors for continuous radon testing. The equipment remains there for approximately 48 hours.
After the monitors are collected, we review the analysis report together to discuss the results and any additional steps, if necessary.
